Operations Internship - ODW Logistics

Location

Kenosha, WI

Date

Jun - Aug 2024

Project type

Internship Final Project

During my internship at ODW Logistics, working with customers Haribo of America, I was tasked with leading a team through the transition of a warehouse location under a strict deadline to meet the company’s order requirements. The challenge was compounded by the need to audit strategic transfer loads, pallet locations, and shipments while also handling a significant increase in order volume, with up to 90,000 cases being shipped per day. A key challenge was the lack of sufficient information to provide a comprehensive presentation, as we didn’t initially have enough data to effectively represent our progress.

To address this, I led a team to coordinate the logistics and meet the tight deadline. We had to dig deep into existing data and collaborate across departments to uncover the necessary information. We audited the transfer loads and pallet locations, verifying each shipment’s accuracy. In addition to our warehouse operations, I took advantage of the internship program’s informational sessions, which offered valuable insight into the company’s use of ODW-specific software, helping us streamline operations and access the necessary data for our presentation. We worked diligently to identify gaps in the data and fill them in, ensuring we had the right metrics to showcase our hard work.

As a result, we successfully completed the warehouse transition on time, met Haribo's order requirements, and maintained the increased shipment volume of 90,000 cases per day. Our team was able to present a detailed report with well-researched data, highlighting the impact of our efforts despite the initial information gaps. The insights gained from the internship’s cross-departmental sessions allowed us to optimize our workflow and improve our data-driven decision-making.
